Cooperation to fight Covid-19

Mexico and the European Union have strengthened their Strategic Partnership in the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, joining forces to promote access to COVID-19 vaccines as a global public good, both at the UN and at the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Foreign Minister of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, was the only Minister of Latin America and the Caribbean participating in the Summit for the Global Response against Coronavirus on May 4, co-organized by the European Union, underlining Mexico's commitment as Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC promoting the combined regional efforts and knowledge for the global response to the pandemic.

Likewise, Mexico participates on its own and on behalf of CELAC as a founding member of the Facilitation Council of the ‘Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator’ (ACT- Accelerator), jointly co-sponsored by the WHO and the European Union.

In the field of bilateral cooperation, the European Union and its member states launched the Team Europe initiative in Mexico with an initial fund of 8 million euros to meet immediate needs, as well as long-term structural impacts on the Mexican economy and its society.
